This blog is all about those cold nights we sit in front of the fireplace and give in to all the useless but joyful stuff. As Oscar Wilde stated in the preface of his book The Picture of Dorian Gray: “We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless.”
Join in if you feel like being useless for a while.
Now you can listen to the album’s opening track. Virginia Woolf was born on January 25th 1882, 131 years ago.
On 28 March 1941, Woolf put on her overcoat, filled its pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse near her home and drowned herself (Panken, Shirley (1987). Virginia Woolf and the "Lust of Creation": A Psychoanalytic Exploration. SUNY Press. pp. 260–262.) leaving a letter to her husband, which you can read below. By now you probably already know it: The Mars Volta broke up.
Cedric stated that he tried his hardest to keep it going but it seems like Omar’s attentions are all now focused on his new band Bosnian Rainbows. Cedric also added that pretending the breakup was a hiatus would be an insult to The Mars Volta’s fans. That is how the band that gave us such a masterpiece like De-Loused In Comatorium comes to an end after releasing six albums and a career spanned over ten years.
Thank god this band ever happened at all!
Listen below to the breathtaking live performance of Day Of The Baphomets from Amputechture. The Mars Volta are without a doubt one of the most ambitious bands of our time. Turn the volume up to eleven and enjoy.
Yesterday Russian Circles posted the following on their facebook page: “We are excited to announce that we will be entering the studio this spring to record our 5th full length album! More info to come.”
These are incredible news, right?
Below you can watch them playing 309 from their last album Empros.
Four hours ago Riding Pânico announced through their facebook page that their second album is already recorded. These are great news for instrumental rock fans. Cannot wait!
