This blog is all about those cold nights we sit in front of the fireplace and give in to all the useless but joyful stuff. As Oscar Wilde stated in the preface of his book The Picture of Dorian Gray: “We can forgive a man for making a useful thing as long as he does not admire it. The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless.”
Join in if you feel like being useless for a while.
Demography is a release by the Michigan based band The Exploration which is a
collection of previous demos, rarities and three previously unreleased tracks.
What is so special about this release? Well, it is a cassette release only
limited to 100 copies and it is available in turquoise or orange.
The Exploration plays a blend of math-rock and indie-rock and the fantastic
artwork was done by their friend Errol Hoffman. Check out below.
Thirteen albums released and Depeche Mode still sound like pop music
needs them. Delta Machine came out on 22nd March 2013 and by now two
videos were also released. The first one for the single Heaven and two days ago for the track Soothe My Soul.
And you what? You can watch them both right here. Enjoy!
"Why do we wear out so quickly, when the elements of which we are
composed are indestructible? What is it that wears out? Not that of which we
are made, that is certain. We wither and fade away, we perish, because the
desire to live is extinguished. And why does this most potent flame die out?
For lack of faith. From the time we are born we are told that we are mortal. From
the time we are able to understand words we are taught that we must kill in
order to survive. In season and out we are reminded that, no matter how
intelligently, reasonably or wisely we live, we shall become sick and die. We
are inoculated with the idea of death almost from birth. Is it any wonder that
we die?"
Last night I had the chance to see the British musician Denis Jones performing live. I did not know much about Denis or his work but I was blown away by his performance. Denis’ songs are loop based but as he proudly claims “all analog” and live, no computers involved whatsoever.
Below you can watch two quite different videos for quite different songs.
Below there is a list of 5 films I have watched recently. None of them is a masterpiece although I believe they are worth watching.
We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011)
This is undoubtedly the best from this list. Powerful and dense like thrillers should be. And Ezra Miller is great.
Django Unchained (2012)
There is nothing to say about this one that has not been said yet. Some claim it is Taratino’s best film while others are severely critical about it.
Room 666 (1982)
During Cannes 1982 Wim Wenders invited some film directors to discuss the future of cinema and made this documentary out of it.
Oslo, August 31st (2011)
Anders is about to end his rehab program. However, on the 31st of August he is allowed to leave the clinic in order to go to a job interview.
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (2012)
A film about how hard it is to be a teenager. Another one, right? At least there is Ezra Miller who is one of the most promising young actors and, may I add, the soundtrack is also quite good: Bowie, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, etc…
