Bye Bye Blackbird, Rachelle Ferrell

Rachelle Ferrell is my favourite contemporary jazz singer. The 1964 born American singer’s singing is highly technical with a mind-blowing six octave vocal range. She reaches what is called the whistle register. The first time I heard it I couldn’t believe she did that with her own voice.
Bye Bye Blackbird is the third track of her 1995 release First Instrument which came out by Blue Note.
Don't mind the video just listen to the music.

Soul Lament, Kenny Burrell (1963)

A classic song from a classic album by the great jazz guitarist Kenny Burrell. Soul Lament is the third track of his 1963 album Midnight Blue. What else can be said? It’s just pure magic, a sweet composition that makes your heart melt.

Goldwrap, Esbjörn Svensson Trio (2006)

Esbjörn Svensson is another case of a talented musician who departed too soon. Esbjörn was a jazz pianist and along with Dan Berglund (double bass) and Magnus Öström (drums) founded the Esbjörn Svensson Trio.
e.s.t brought together music styles like jazz, rock, classical and techno and became one of the most successful jazz acts of recent history, being able to reach young audiences.
Listen to the wonderful track Goldwrap taken from their 2006 release Tuesday Wonderland.

Run & Dumb taken from Heart Mouth Dialogues, Elisa Rodrigues

Elisa Rodrigues’ debut album Heart Mouth Dialogues is said to be a sweet surprise. Honestly I haven’t listened to it but taking into account the live performances I wholeheartedly believe it. Elisa Rodrigues is a young Portuguese jazz singer who along with Júlio Resende, an incredibly talented pianist, has put out this critically acclaimed album.
Listen to Run, an original composition and their rendition of Nirvana’s Dumb.

Unkerich, Bohren und Der Club of Gore

Bohren und Der Club of Gore is quite a singular band. They come from Germany and play a downtempo dark-jazz sound. Put your best headphones on and chill out. The featured track, Unkerich, can be found on their 2008 release Dolores.
